Despite having one of the shorter careers out of their contemporaries, the El MidaZ Affair were one of the biggest groups of the early 1970s. Comprised of lead vocalist Javier El MidaZ, drummer Willie “Knuckles” Johnson, bassist Bobby “Too Tall” Willingston, guitarist K.C. Anderson, backup vocalist Rasheeda “Bird” Jackson, horn players Jake and Drake Wyman, and keyboard player Guter Jivelbergen, the group earned their reputation on the chittlin circuit as a must-see live act, playing festivals, state fairs, and jook joints across the south.

By the time they signed a record contract in 1973, the group was at the height of their buzz. But things took a turn for the worse. Studio sessions were tainted by drug use, alcoholism, and an unprecedented pinball machine addiction stirred inner turmoil among the band members. Though a full-length album was recorded, the band split up before it could be released and the project was shelved indefinitely. The members of the El MidaZ Affair moved on to new phases in their life, while El MidaZ himself became a recluse, never to be heard from again.

Until now.

Ladies and gentlemen, straight out of the dustiest vaults, behold the debut album from the El MidaZ Affair…not only the oldest known hip hop recording, but certainly one of the dopest.

Ord till era mammor!

Jag började alltså inte alls börja i måndags, utan idag. Mycket produktivt annars, spelat mycket, mycket tevespel i helgen. Min fru har varit på språng så jag har vänsterprasslat hårt med handkontrollen, sittandes i ryggvridande ställningar flera timmar åt gången. Gissar att melonen jag åt igår luktar riktigt illa där den ligger i köket, i de högre skikten av diskberget. Gissar vidare att jag borde göra något åt det där innan frun kommer hem. Men fan, jag jobbar ju, det är hennes jobb, eller? Skitig är jag, i vilket fall.

Kan i övrigt varmt rekommendera att ladda ner de (hittills) samlade verken med Rapsody som du hittar här. Hon är en av de mer spännande rapparna som ligger och puttrar just nu. Pratade med Adam B förut om vad som är nytt på hiphopfronten. Game's nya ligger väl över en månad bort, men innan dess kommer flera släpp som jag är förväntansfull inför. Dessa är bl.a: Redman - Reggie (släpps idag, omg), Z-Ro - Heroin (15/6), Crooked I - Hood Star (15/6), Drizzy - Thank Me Later (15/6), Joell Ortiz - Free Agent (15/6), Chamillionaire - Venom (22/6), Hell Razah - Heaven Razah (29/6). Samma dag som Game släpper The R.E.D. Album (6/7) släpper Krondon (från SAS, förra videon) Let Him Live, som kan bli sjukt bra.

Nåväl, det ser ut att bli en bra musiksommar, inte minst därför att Splash-festivalen är ON! It's WU motherfucka!
